The Desired Results Developmental Profile is an assessment tool used to track the progress of students by LAUP. It’s a way so see where progress is being made and I can only assume it’s super to track which teaching styles produce the best results while at the same time tracking the quality of the school. While filling these out however,  I can’t help but notice that these are based on recorded observations which to make changes the nature of the child you may be observing. There are children one can observe in the classroom that speak with their peers and seem to play well and communicate with them but if that child is shy towards teachers it can make those observations difficult.

While I was filling these out I came across a few examples of this which can make filling out the forms challenging. This is not to say that as a teacher I don’t know my students, just that any form of observation is difficult.

If you have to fill out these for your own students next yearI suggest  that you not just familiarize  yourself with the tool as one should, but that you fill one out using a weeks worth of observation of one of your new students.  This will help you know what you are able to naturally observe and remember and help you come up with activities which will target these areas and help record the results the best.

Each classroom is different and you need to recognize your strengths and weaknesses to help make it the best possible learning environment for your kids. If you are going to use this tracking tool for the first time or you are experienced with it I recommend a refresher and thinking which activities allowed you to record the your students progress the best for when you have to take the time to fill these out.
